Subject: I'm going fishing tomorrow!
Hi guys!
Let me introduce you to each other.
GJ van Doorn is, of course, my Dad! If you other two want to blame someone for me going fishing tomorrow, blame him! I wouldn't know how to do any of this casting stuff if it were not for him!
Ron, who lives in Holland, is our fly fishing friend and editor of the Casting Club of The Hague's newsletter. This club was begun by my father and my great uncle and some friends way back in 1954. Ron is truly a global traveller in hot persuit of big trout !!
Dan Plummer is a long lost friend from the USA, who's "home river" is the famous "Beaverkill" in upstate New York. We met some years ago when Dan and his good friend Chris were stranded on the Bow River. I happened to have finished a day of fly fishing on the Bow, bumped into them in the parking lot at Mackinnon Flats and I gave them a ride back to town and the following day guided them to some big fish. One in particular was a big brown trout that I knew was hiding behind a big rock. He had slammed a big leech I was using but I missed him and I decided to leave him for later. Near the end of the day, and back at that same spot, I asked Chris for the biggest ugliest thing he had in the flybox. He pulled out a suitably mangled BIG streamer that he had used for catching Bonita tuna back home in California. Perfect! I told him where to cast the thing and to get ready. A very nice, big, and hungry brown rammed it and the fight was on.
Now that you all know each other ....... I'll share pictures of my new "home stream" the "Little Red Deer River" which I will be heading to tomorrow.

Here is the bridge heading to my house.......

Looking east from the bridge deck ....... you can see my shadow!

This is the view looking west .....
I decided to walk upstream ... I had "Missy", one of my Malamutes, with me.

I found this riffle ....

... that slid into this slow deep pool ........

and then into this nice run .....
On the bank I found this ....

A dead brown ... judging by his kype I would say that he died in the spawning run last fall and froze into the ice for the winter.
but he was a BIG boy!!!!

as my size nine's show!!!
His jaws were all white teeth ...

and at the end of my little trip I came back to the bridge.

So, I'll let you all know how I make out. I noticed BIG stoneflies zooming around and the forecast is for a nice day with a bit of overcast clouds. I can hardly wait!!!
