Here's the Burnt Timber Road crossing the Little Red Deer River. Its a couple of miles ENE of my place (see map).

The first pool. You can see dimples in the water where the main current meets the eddy current - later in the day some nice browns were rising along this seam.

As I walked upstream I came upon one pool after another.

But I didn't see any fish, it was darn chilly that early in the morning and began to look for other things and came upon lots of these ....

Last Fall a neighbor had said that a couple of wolves were hanging about the countryside. I didn't really believe them until I came upon these tracks! They ran all along the edge of the stream as far as I walked. A pair, I suppose a male and a female. The big print is much larger than any of my Malamutes can make - I suspect they are from a BIG boy! Ron, I took this picture for you!

Then there is the fearsome Canada Goose tracks!!!! Yup, I wasn't doing much fishing. There just didn't seem like much activity. Too cool, no bugs and fish at the bottom.

Just another fabulous pool.

In the end I did get a couple of hits as I worked my way back to the bridge. Dad had mentioned that I should try Maribou Leeches. I did, but the flies were huge as they were flies I use on the Bow River, not a stream like this, and so I missed at least a half dozen hits - five from the same fish!! They all seemed to hit the fly short. I didn't have a smaller leech and so was stumped by the buggers ..... next time I'll have smaller leeches. Next time ........
