1988 with my first Alaskan Malamutes, Kelsey (Quartermoon's Kelsey - laying down) and Mackenzie (Malhaven Snodrift Sparkle).
These two were a wonderful pair. Kelsey the serious one and Mack ever playful.
Here we are with loaner Mal, Nick (far left), at the Canmore dogsled races. We got blown out by the Alaskan mix breed teams, but we could have pulled a small car with no problem and probably have finished just as fast, too!
This is what I call taking the summer off! Kelsey barely tolerated the sunglasses, but Mack, well, if he saw you outside with yours he'd nudge you until you went in and got his! He would walk around the yard purposefully looking at things in this new medium! What a character!
Mack was the first to go over the Rainbow Bridge
(to read more click here).
He was too young, only seven, and I miss him terribly to this
day. When I came home from the vet's after having ended Mack's
suffering, I went into the back yard to hug Kelsey. She sniffed
my hands and let let out the most heart rending howl - she knew.
Without Mack, the only dog she could tolerate in her presense,
Kelsey lost some of her drive. She was definitely the matron of
the house, however, and took it upon herself to maintain the kitchen
counters clear of cats! In her final years puppies Daisy and Thompson
(pictured below) came to stay. She tolerated them, but only barely
- she was just too old and cantankerous for puppy stuff. Kelsey
held on until she was nearly twelve.
Unfortunately, 10 months after I had lost Mack, I lost Thom (to read more click here). Two dogs within a year over the Rainbow Bridge was hard to take. But soon after destiny gave me Fraser.
Here they are, being silly, especially
that Daisy girl - there isn't a serious bone in her body!
