WELCOME to ......

Ardistan's Great Khan - "Temujin" at six months of age.....

I have always had a passion for sled dogs since reading the "Silver Chief" books as a kid. Many years later in 1986 and with a first house came the first Malamute. I soon added another Malamute and began recreational sledding and have since added conformation showing as well as ski-joring and general hauling work around the yard. I now live in the country where my Mals have room to run and I don't have to listen to traffic!

The kennel name, ARDISTAN, came from another book. This one by Karl May entitled "Ardistan and Djinnistan". It is one of my favourite books and every time I read it I find something new. It is a timeless book. Ardistan, I have come to determine, means Earth ("Ard" in the Germanic tongue for dirt or earth) and Kingdom ("Stan" as in the Oriental use in Afghanistan - Kingdom of the Afghani). So, Ardistan translates to Kingdom of the Earth. Djinnistan means Spirit ("Djinn" meaning ghost or spirit which we have changed to "Genie", as in the bottle) and Kingdom. This gives us Kingdom of the Spirit. I could spend a long time going further, but for now let me say I felt it presumptuous to get Djinnistan as my Kennel name and so I have ARDISTAN!

In my breeding program I strive for three things; Temperament, Soundness and Movement. I try to help create strong, well balanced (mentally and physically) and happy Alaskan Malamutes. Here at Ardistan I follow the Standard of Origin as closely as possible and I give the Mals ample time to prove themselves.

This site will grow by leaps and bounds as I find new material to add so stay tuned and come back often.

Be my guest to peruse the site and, please, ask questions by clicking the"E-Mail" link on the left - I'll get to them as soon as I can.
